Welcome to Reframe Counselling, and thank you for taking the time to read my page.
Hi, I’m Jack — an integrative counsellor based in Kilmarnock with extensive experience supporting students and young people across Ayrshire, Edinburgh, and wider Scotland. I’ve worked in a variety of settings, including schools, colleges, and local authority services, as well as with older adults through community organisations. Alongside counselling, I’ve delivered workshops on suicide prevention, self-harm, and listening skills for both professionals and young people.
I was first drawn to counselling through a deep interest in people — their unique stories, and the connections we can build. No two clients are ever the same, and that’s something I truly value. My own journey into counselling began when I was 20, right in the middle of a huge life transition. I’d just left full-time work to become a student, after having gone straight from school into work. I watched my friends move to university, experienced relationships forming and ending, and navigated a period of change that felt heavy and uncertain. It’s this lived experience that helps me understand and connect with young people who may be facing similar transitions today.
Over the years, I’ve supported clients with a wide range of challenges, including anxiety, suicidal thoughts, panic attacks, exam stress, life transitions, self-harm, depression, low self-esteem, loneliness, and isolation. What I enjoy most about working with students and young adults is seeing them grow into themselves and move toward the person they want to be.
In the room, I’m understanding, friendly, and open — someone who can sit alongside you through the challenges so you don’t feel alone. As an integrative counsellor, I draw on a range of approaches, with my core principle rooted in Carl Rogers’ belief that in the absence of threat, people are free to express themselves and naturally move toward growth. I also use CBT techniques where helpful, and my work is always trauma-informed.
For me, the most important part of the therapeutic relationship is openness and honesty. I’ll always be honest with you, and together we can create a safe, meaningful space to explore whatever’s on your mind.
Outside of work, I enjoy various sports, exploring new places with my partner, and going for walks. I also occasionally enjoy a lazy day in bed watching Netflix or scrolling through social media — because sometimes, we all need that balance.
